Let's get Pugsical! Physical!

My sister-in-law has a pug. A very cute slightly overweight dog named Fitz. I can really relate to his struggle to be more fit. For some time I've been fighting the freshman 10 plus the married 20 and the baby 15....well you get the picture. Over the holiday I hear that Fitz is on a workout regime (probably so he doesn't gain the Turkey Day average of 1 lb.).

We were eating Thanksgiving dinner at my house and my mother-in-law mentioned that while they were dog sitting Fitz they had to run him on the treadmill. In my mind I conjured up images of Vicki with Fitz in the workout room. She was hired as his personal trainer; pushing him each day to reach his personal best. I'm sure they came up with a goal sheet for him and that there was a towel and water bottle ready for him after he'd pushed himself to his doggie limits.

I recalled that Fitz could reach speeds up to 4.5 mph without breaking a sweat. Now, when I heard this I felt slightly embarrassed. I, in my personal quest for fitness, had only run 1 minute sprints at a pace of 4.5 mph. Certainly I could push myself faster than that considering I have twice the leg span of this dog(I have pretty short legs for a human so cut me some slack). Needless to say I felt a little lacking.

Never in a million years did I think I'd find myself in competition with a dog. Now I'm running 5.8 mph sprints for 1 1/2 minutes. Maybe sometime soon Fitz and I will come out with a workout video for pets and the people who love them, but for now Fitz can eat my dust!

Umm... Fitz has lost half a pound thank you very much!!! =) We are limiting his kibble, I bet if you ate only a cup of doggie food a day you would be just as svelte as he is! All 3 of us here in FL laughed out loud at this quite a bit, thanks!
